Calorie counting. The diet that’s not a diet.

I’ve tried weight watchers but despite my initial enthusiasm I found it very restricting. I craved chocolate and sweets more than I’d ever eaten them before and often felt hungry. It didn’t take long for me to fall off the wagon, though I don’t think Christmas helped much either!

As always the year started with renewed determination, but this time I’ve switched to calorie counting using My Fitness Pal.

My Fitness Pal is an app that you download for free and by inputting your age, weight and target it will calculate how many calories you can eat to maintain a healthy weight loss rate. It also sync’s with many other fitness apps. I have mine linked to Map My Run, but you can link it to several others as well as your fitbit or garmin if you have those!

I really don’t feel like I’m on a diet. I’m not on a diet. I’m just watching what I eat, literally. It’s educational, I never knew there were equal amount of calories in both a jacket potato and a toffee crisp! It’s all about spending your calories wisely to ensure you don’t go hungry but still get the nutrition your body needs.

Here’s what the app looks like with my dinner input:

But if I do want chocolate, I just eat chocolate! Curley Wurley are my new best friend coming in at only 115 calories!

So I’m 1 week into my new eating routine and I’ve lost 5lbs this week! I can’t tell you how pleased I am, especially with not being able to run!

Have you got any weight loss goals? How are you getting on?

Perhaps you have weight loss as a New Years resolution? Why not link it up here?

  1. That is an epic weight loss Hayley!! Well done! As you rightly state, being sensible makes ‘dieting’ and weight loss a whole lot easier! Calorie counting using MFP is great, I generally barcode scan everything! Last night was a toss up between Sainsburys Chicken noodles or Aldi Chicken noodles… exactly the same product, pack weight etc… it simply came down to which had the least calories… the Sainsburys pack incidentally! 😉
Thank you for linking up to #WeightLossWednesday on Sim’s Life… have a good week and hope to see you again next week 🙂
Love the Curly Wurly tip too… may have to invest in a pack 🙂 Sim x

  2. I’m using this app too, mainly to track what I eat due to needing to follow a dairy free diet, but also to be a little more mindful of what I’m eating. I love it! x x

  3. Well done on your weight loss! I’ve just switched from Weight Watchers to Slimming World and I find SW far more restrictive and rigid. I ate pretty much what I wanted on Weight Watchers, I’m more scared to on SW.

Thank you for linking up with #WeightLossWednesday and hope to see you again this week!

    Beth x
